Mangalore, June 25: The Yeshwanthpura to Mangalore night train will be extended to Karwar from July 2. The train will proceed to Karwar from Mangalore Junction Station at Kankanady.

S. K. Raina, the manager of the Southern Railways Phalgat Division, told reporters on the sidelines of a meeting of officials of Mysore Division and Phalgat Division at the DC’s office on Friday that operating the train from Mangalore Central Station is not possible because of certain technical problems.

He also said that the electrification work along the Kannur to Mangalore railway line will commence in two months. The Rs. 67 crore worth tender notice has already been floated and the contract will be awarded in 2 more months, he said.

He further said that the electrification work along the Shornoor to Calicut railway line has already been completed while the work along the Calicut to Kannur railway line is now in progress.

He also said that an infrastructure development project worth Rs. 210 crore has been proposed for Mangalore, according to which 2 new platforms worth Rs. 16 crore will be constructed at Mangalore Railway Station and a new entrance to the railway station will be constructed near Muthappan Temple at the cost of Rs. 1.5 crore.

The Mangalore to Panambur railway line will be doubled at the cost of Rs. 150 crore, he said, adding that the Nethravathi Bridge is scheduled to be completed in December. The Rs. 210-crore project also includes a brand new railway station at Jokatte.

Mr. Raina also said that two new booking counters will be launched soon at Mangalore Central station.
