Udupi, Apr 5, 2026: The Udupi district police have detained a notorious rowdy-sheeter, Ganesh Poojary (48) of Kaudur village, under the stringent Goonda Act.
Acting on a detailed report submitted by Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar, District Magistrate and Deputy Commissioner Swaroopa T K issued the detention order on April 4. The accused has since been shifted to Kalaburagi Central Prison.

Ganesh Poojary, listed as a rowdy-sheeter at Karkala Town Police Station, has a long criminal record with 11 cases registered against him. These include four cases of attempted murder, one robbery, three assault cases, and offences related to unlawful assembly and gambling.
Police said he has been convicted in one case and acquitted in seven, while one case is under trial and two are under investigation. The Goonda Act was invoked to prevent his continued involvement in criminal activities and to maintain public order in the district.
