Ronald Colaco releases souvenir of World Konkani Convention

Mangalore, June 5, 2011: Ronald Colaco, the philanthropist and NRI entrepreneur, released a souvenir in commemoration of the first ever World Konkani Cultural Convention organized by Mandd Sobhann in Nov – Dec 2010 at Kalaangan this evening. He was the chairman of the first World Konkani Cultural Convention, a 25-day cultural extravaganza that was held last year.

Speaking in praise of Mandd Sobhann and the work done by this organization to enrich Konkani culture and language, he said that the state government has given financial assistance to the organization to conduct the World Konkani Convention. He also said that the state government has accepted the request submitted for the release of Rs. 50 crore for the benefit of the Christian community. These funds will be earmarked for the education of poor Christians, development of art and culture, agriculture, health, hygiene, and so on.

Rony Gomes, the souvenir editor; Eric Ozerio, the gurkar of Mandd Sobhann, and Louis Pinto, the president, were present on the dais.

The chief guest of the occasion, NRI entrepreneur James Mendonca, felicitated the choreographers of Dance Workshop 2011 conducted by Kalaangan from May 23 to May 29, 2011. He also distributed certificates among 20 participants who participated in the workshop.

James Mendonca also felicitated the writer and director of the Konkani comedy “Kistu Purana,” John Permannur. This play was staged after the formal stage programme.
