Renowned Sanskirt scholar Bannanje Govindacharya passes away

Udupi, Dec 13, 2020: Renowned Sanskritr Scholar and Padma Shri awardee Bannanje Govindacharya passed away after a brief illness at his residence on Sunday.

He was 85 and survived by four daughters. He was conferred with the Padma Shri award in 2009. Bannanje Govindacharya was well versed in Veda Bhashya, Upanishad Bhashya, Mahabharata, Puranas and Ramayana.

He had served as Udayavani Weekly magazine as Chief Editor. As a Sanskrit scholar, he was well versed in Veda bhashya, Upanishad bhashya, Mahabharata, prunes, and Ramayana. He has also written commentaries on Veda suktas, Upanishads, satarudriya, brahmasutra bhashya, gita bhashya and is an orator.

He is one of the greatest experts on the Madhvas tattavada or madhva philosophy, best known for his pravachanam or discourses which are very popular among tuluvas and kannadigas all over the world.

His speeches have covered almost all the philosophical texts and amount to more than 1000 hours. His pravachanam, (discourses) have made him a household name among tuluvas and kannadigas.
