Renowned Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr. Umananda Mallya Passes Away at 74

Mangaluru, Jul. 5, 2026: Renowned orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Umananda Mallya passed away following a prolonged illness at a private hospital in Mangaluru on Friday. He was 74.

Dr. Mallya obtained his MBBS, Diploma in Orthopaedics (D.Ortho) and Master of Surgery (MS) in Orthopaedics from Kasturba Medical College (KMC), Mangaluru. He later served as the Head of the Department of Orthopaedics at KMC Hospital, Attavar, where he earned a reputation as a skilled surgeon and dedicated teacher.

Beyond his medical profession, Dr. Mallya was deeply involved in religious and community service. He was a senior volunteer at the Sri Venkataramana Temple on Rathabeedi in Mangaluru and served as the President of the Sharada Mahotsava Committee of the Acharya Mutt.

Known for his compassion and commitment to public service, Dr. Mallya was widely respected for providing free treatment to economically disadvantaged patients, touching the lives of countless people through his medical and humanitarian work. He is survived by his wife and two sons.
