Ramayana is part of daily life in India – Yogish Bhat

Mangalore, Oct 30, 2012 : Presiding over the Valmiki Jayanthi celebrations on the premises of the Zilla Panchayat on Monday, State Assembly Deputy Speaker N. Yogish Bhat said that Valmiki’s great epic Ramayana is part of the daily lives of the people of India.

The event was organized jointly by the DK district administration, the DK zilla panchayat, the SC welfare department, the Kannada and Culture Department, and DK Valmiki Nayaka Association.

Voicing his opinions of the Rama mantra, he said that it not only inspired Valmiki, but also impressed Mahatma Gandhi and Santa Kabir. Calling Valmiki’s Ramayana as the strength of the country, he said that it can help organize India on the basis of culture.

Dr. P. Y. Mallayya, deputy librarian at Mangalore University, was the chief speaker on this occasion. Stating that the Ramayana is a supreme work of Indian literature and that Valmiki is one of the greatest litterateurs, he said that the six kaandas of the Ramayana deal with human emotions.

Speaking on the occasion, Rithesh Shetty, vice president of the DK Zilla Panchayat, said that the Valmiki community is a small community deprived of government facilities. He urged public representatives to work for the development of the community.

Among those present were DC Dr. Channappa Gowda, MCC Commissioner Dr. Harish Kumar, ZP Deputy Secretary Shivaramegowda, Mangalore TP President K. Harish Kumar, and DK Valmiki Nayaka Association President Haleshappa.
