Mangaluru, Oct 5, 2025: The Clock Tower area and its surroundings received a major cleanliness drive on Sunday with multiple volunteer teams taking up different tasks under the Swachh Mangaluru campaign.
Launching the October edition of the drive, Swami Vidyamrutananda of Ramakrishna Mission Sarada Peeth, Kolkata, said the Swachh Mangaluru Abhiyan of Ramakrishna Mission has gained recognition even in West Bengal, where it is being emulated in several places.
A team led by Captain Ganesh Karnik, along with Krishna Bhavan Auto Park president Naveen Kumar, secretary Ashok Subbiah, and members Rajendra, Purushottam, Rupesh, Anand Kulal, Shivaram, and Satyanarayana K.V., cleaned the Clock Tower circle and the footpath near Mini Vidhana Soudha.
Another group, headed by senior volunteer Kamalaksha Pai, focused on the stretch from Clock Tower to Hampankatte Circle. The team, comprising Dr. Rajendra Prasad, M. Ramachandra Bhat, Ravindranath Nayak, Babita Shetty, Rajeevi Chandrashekar, Sunanda, Nagesh, Aniruddha Nayak, Damodar Bhat, Gopinath Rao, Ganapathi S. Nayak, Ramesh Pai, Vitthal Prabhu, Pundalik Shenoy, P.G. Venkat Rao, Gopal Bhat and Sukumar S. Salian, cleared and cleaned the road dividers.
The Clock Tower fountain was desilted and cleaned by a team led by Dilraj Alva, Balakrishna Bhat, Himmat Singh, Avinash, Vijesh Devadiga, and Raghavendra Kalloor with the help of a suction truck to remove stagnant water. Simultaneously, another group headed by Uday Kumar K.P. removed unauthorised banners in the vicinity.
Adding a youthful touch, a student team from the Nitte Institute of Physiotherapy, guided by Dr. Dhanesh Kumar and Dr. Ruchita Narsiya, took up cleaning the wall murals along the University College compound.
