RTA to initiate people-friendly measures soon: Mallikarjuna

Mangalore, July 10, 2013: Regional Transport Officer  Mallikarjuna has  said that  public friendly measures will be initiated in the RTO office in Mangalore within the next one week.

Speaking at the Transport Adalat held at the RTO office  in Mangalore on July 10, Wednesday, Mallikarjuna said  considering the heavy rush  for obtaining driving licences, it has been decided to have two cameras  instead of one.  Measures will also be taken to make seating arrangements for applicants after issuing tokens to them, Mallikarjuna said in reply to a query by Gerard  of Nagarika Hitha Vedike.

There was a complaint that the signal lights were not operating scientifically in Mangalore. Responding to the query, Subrahmanya Traffic ACP said  the MCC had permitted installation of signals at five points and added that the process of installation has been delayed as the earlier tender process has been cancelled.

DYFI  District President Muneer Katipalla drew the attention of the RTO towards the fact that the oil tankers were not following the rules that there should be two drivers and a cleaner in each tanker.

To this the RTO said  presently 60 to 70 per cent of tankers have two drivers and added that some oil companies which are facing shortage of drivers too have assured to appoint adequate drivers. He also assured action against erring tankers.

Choodamani of Citizens’ Committee, BS Hasanabba and several others raised certain pressing issues at the meeting.
