Puttur, Nov 25, 2025: A 22-year-old woman, reportedly distressed due to prolonged health issues, died by suicide at Keyyur village in Puttur, Dakshina Kannada district.
The deceased has been identified as Neetha (22). Her elder sister Geetha filed a complaint with the Sullia Police Station regarding the incident.
According to the complaint, the sisters and their mother lived together after their father, Gudappa, separated from the family nearly 20 years ago due to domestic disputes. On the morning of the incident, Geetha had left for Mangaluru for work and to purchase medicines for her younger sister. During this time, Neetha is said to have taken the extreme step.
When Geetha returned home in the evening, she found Neetha hanging from the window sill using one end of a saree.
Neetha, who was employed in Mangaluru, had reportedly been suffering from health problems since 2016. She initially experienced severe headaches and later developed nerve-related issues in her neck, spine, and head from 2020 onwards. She had undergone treatment at private hospitals in Mangaluru, followed by further care at Manipal KMC and Ayurvedic hospitals.
Her sister stated in the complaint that prolonged health complications may have driven Neetha to despair and prompted her to end her life.
Police have registered a case and are investigating.
