Puttur Students Enter Asian Golden Book of World Records for Sand Art Feat

Puttur, Oct 4, 2026: Five students of Varnakuteera Art Education Institute at Kallare in Puttur have earned places in the Asian Golden Book of World Records for their sand art performances, including creating artwork while blindfolded. Eight playback singers from the institute have also been recognised in the Golden Book of Records for their contribution to the achievement.

Three Class 6 students — Buvika R.K., Anshi Santhosh Kumar and Vishma Ajjikallu — created sand art continuously for 30 hours while blindfolded, while Class 3 students Himanshu Krishna and Sohan K.S. completed an 18-hour sand art performance with their eyes open. The record-setting performances were held in the presence of Dr Manish Vaishnoi, Asia head of the Asian Golden Book of World Records. The students were presented with certificates recognising their achievements.

This follows the earlier achievement of Varnakuteera student Shamika M.K., who created around 300 sand art designs in 24 hours while blindfolded and accompanied by playback singing, earning a place in the Asian Book of Records.

Eight playback singers who supported the latest record-setting performances were also recognised as Best Coordinators by the Golden Book of World Records. They include Varnakuteera coordinator Praveen Varnakuteera, institute president Geethalakshmi Kedimaru, Anusha Ammannaya, Ravi Puttur, Shiva Kumar Bettampady, Prasanna P., Greeshma Ekatadaka and Gautham Krishna Nekkre.

The event was inaugurated by B.V. Narayana Bhat on September 26.

Mahalingeshwara Temple Management Committee president Eshwar Bhat Panjigudde, Vijay Samrat founder Sahaj Rai Balajje, Cooperative Federation state committee member and D.K. District Central Cooperative Bank director Shashikumar Rai Balyottu, Puthila Parivar Seva Trust founder Arun Kumar Puthila and civil engineer Hariprasad Rai were among those who attended the event and congratulated the students.
