Puttur: Notorious theft accused absconding for 5 years arrested

Puttur, Aug 5, 2025: Uppinangady police have arrested a 24-year-old man, Sohail alias Sohib, a native of Hassan, who had been on the run for five years in connection with multiple theft cases.

Sohail is implicated in eight theft cases in total. Two cases were registered against him at the Uppinangady police station in 2020 and 2022, while Bantwal Town and Ullal police stations each registered a case against him in 2020. Another case was filed at the Kannapuram police station in Kerala in 2022.

The accused had been residing in Talapady, Mangaluru, before changing his location to evade arrest. Police eventually tracked him down to Bittagowdanahalli in Hassan district, where he was apprehended and produced before the court.

The operation was led by Uppinangady SI Kaushik, with support from personnel Shivaram, Shreeshaila, and Mohammad Maulana.
