
Puttur, Feb 13, 2026: The Dakshina Kannada District Cyber Crime Police have arrested a man in connection with an online fraud case in which over Rs 2.37 lakh was siphoned off from a Puttur resident’s credit card.
The accused has been identified as Avinash Ramesh Gowda (24), originally from Maharashtra and currently residing in Krishnarajapete in Mandya district.
According to a complaint filed by Yashodhara, a resident of Puttur, an unidentified person called her from different mobile numbers, posing as a representative of an insurance company. Initially, the caller pressured her to purchase a new insurance policy and pay the premium. When she declined the offer, he convinced her that he would help cancel an existing insurance process.
Under this pretext, the fraudster obtained her credit card details and OTP. Using the confidential information, the accused illegally transferred Rs 2,37,036 from her credit card to another account.
Based on the complaint, a case was registered at the Dakshina Kannada District Cyber Crime Police Station under Section 66(D) of the IT Act and Sections 318(4) and 319(2) of the BNS.
Following an investigation, the police arrested the accused on February 11. He was produced before the court, which remanded him to judicial custody.
