Puttur: High Court grants conditional bail to BJP leader’s son in sexual exploitation case

Puttur, Sept 5, 2025: The Karnataka High Court has granted conditional bail to 21-year-old Shrikrishna J Rao of Bappalige, who was arrested on charges of sexually exploiting a woman under the pretext of marriage. He was released from jail on Thursday after completing the legal formalities.

According to police, the accused, son of BJP leader Jagannivas Rao, developed a physical relationship with the 21-year-old woman after assuring her of marriage.

The issue came to light when the woman became pregnant, and the accused allegedly refused to marry her. Based on her complaint, a case of rape and breach of trust was registered at the Dakshina Kannada women’s police station.

The survivor, a Puttur city resident, had recently graduated from a Mangaluru-based college. Police arrested the accused on July 5.
