Puttur: Court sentences man to 5 years in jail for causing mother’s death

Puttur, May 1, 2025: In a case related to an incident that occurred six years ago, the Puttur Fifth Additional District and Sessions Court has sentenced a man whose actions led to the death of his mother.

The accused, Gopal alias Gopa, a resident of Kyamana village in Kadaba taluk, has been sentenced to imprisonment.

On the night of February 15, 2019, Gopal reportedly got into an argument with his mother, Cheenkuru, and assaulted her with a stone used for processing areca leaves. He then neglected to provide her with medical treatment, which led to her death on February 19, 2019.

Following the incident, the Bellare police registered a case, arrested the accused, and submitted the charge sheet to the court.

After conducting the trial, the Fifth Additional District and Sessions Court in Puttur sentenced the accused to five years of imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹5,000. In case of failure to pay the fine, he will have to undergo an additional three months of imprisonment.
