The complaint was filed by the Manava Bandhutva Vedike, which has sought the arrest of Dr Bhat and legal action against a YouTube channel that allegedly aired the speech. According to the organisation, the remarks were made on January 12 at a programme held on the campus of a private college and were heard by students, parents and minors.

The complainants alleged that Dr Bhat, who presided over the event, made provocative statements inciting violence against Muslims and Christians. They claimed the speech spread hatred among those present at the venue as well as viewers of the online broadcast, especially impressionable students.

It was also alleged that Dr Bhat violated court-imposed restrictions that bar him from making hate speeches. By repeating such remarks, he is accused of promoting communal hatred and violence in society.

The complaint was submitted by Ramachandra K., taluk committee president of the Manava Bandhutva Vedike Karnataka, who urged the police to take strict action. Several activists and community representatives were present when the complaint was filed.
