Public tribute to Dr. S.L. Bhyrappa in Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Sep 27 , 2025: The literary world’s invaluable gem, Padma Bhushan awardee and Saraswati Samman recipient Dr. S.L. Bhyrappa, was honored with a public tribute in Mangaluru by various organizations and eminent personalities. The event was held on Friday, September 26, at the Bhuvanendra Sabhavana of Canara High School, Mangaluru, where Dr. Bhyrappa was remembered through musical homage, Vedic recitation, speeches, and national tributes.

Pradeep Kumar Kalkur, former president of the Dakshina Kannada District Sahitya Parishad, who presided over the program, noted that this tribute goes beyond mere respect—it is more appropriately a veneration. He recalled Dr. Bhyrappa’s fondness for Mangaluru, emphasizing how the city’s environment greatly inspired his literary creations.

Swami Jitkamanandaji Maharaj, president of the Ramakrishna Math, Mangaluru, shared memories of his first meeting with Dr. Bhyrappa and subsequent interactions. Other dignitaries present included MLA Vedavyasa Kamath, senior Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh leader Kajampadi Subrahmanya Bhat, Dr. Tukaram Poojari (president of the Rani Abbakka Tulu Study Center), former Legislative Council member Captain Ganesh Karnik, Sanskrit scholars Vishwas, M.B. Puranik of Vishva Hindu Parishad, Mangalpadi Naresh Shenai of the Canara High School Association Board, and several others.

Musical tributes were offered by Rachana Kamath, Pratibha Rai, and Ananya Narayan, while Vedic homage was presented by Dr. Kedari Prabhakar Adiga, one of the chief priests of Kadri Sri Manjunath Temple.
