Mangaluru, Aug 08, 2020: Revenue Minister R Ashok has instructed officials to provide an immediate compensation of Rs 10,000 to the affected people even if an inch of water enters their houses or houses are damaged due to tree fall or heavy winds.
Presiding over a review meet at the ZP Meeting Hall on August 8, Saturday, he also instructed officials to ensure that those displaced and lodged in relief centres are provided healthy and also variety food by changing menu instead of providing just rice and sambar.
The government has already released a grant of Rs 5 crores as compensation to those affected by natural calamities, he said.
On this occasion, the minister instructed the officials to evacuate people living in dangerous places if required even by force if they fail to heed to the instructions . He also said disaster management committees should be formed at gram panchayat level by recruiting interested volunteers.
Deputy Commissioner Dr Rajendra K V who also spoke, informed the minister that Sullia and Belthangady have received maximum rainfall in the last 24 hours. He also said there was 90 mm rainfall during the period in the district. People from landslide prone areas of Mithabail have been shifted to safer places, he added.
Legislators from the district, in-charge Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary, SP Laxmi Prasad, Additional DC M J Roopa and other officials were present.
