Mangalore, Aug 1, 2013 : DK District in-charge Minister and State Forest Minister Ramanatha Rai has said that the government must go ahead with the proposed ultra mega thermal power plant at Niddodi only after studying the pros and cons of the project.
Responding to a query in this regard he said the problems of the people need to be understood and the project initiated in such a way that environment is not harmed.
Continuing, Rai said it is not an easy task to acquire farmers’ land in the recent times due to the strict regulations of the Centre.
Pointing out at the several movements against mega projects in the district in the past, the minister while referring to the UPCL said, in Ellur too there was a movement, however later those who opposed the project had supported the plant. This should not happen, he remarked.
On the proposed Ettinahole project, Rai said there was a need for a comprehensive scientific study on the proposed Ettinahole project.
