Preparations afoot for Ganesha Chaturthi celebrations

Mangalore, Sep 8, 2013: Markets in Mangalore and across the district are making brisk business with people thronging for purchase of vegetables, flowers, sweets, sugarcanes etc to make preparations for the Ganesha Chaturthi celebrations on September 9, Monday.  Gowri Habba is being celebrated on September 8, Sunday.

All along the streets near State Bank and Hampankatta one can see flower vendors lined up and selling a variety of flowers. Vegetable sellers too are busy as is the case with sugarcane sellers.

Ganesha idols of varied shapes, sizes and colours are also kept ready at various places.  On September 9, Monday being Ganesha Chaturhti,  the birthday of Lord Ganesha, also known by several names like Vighna Nivaraka, Vinayaka, Ekadantha, devotees who install Ganesha idols in their homes as well as public platforms take the  ordered idols and then worship them.

In Mangalore Sarvajanika Ganeshotsava celebrations are held at Sanghaniketan, KSRTC bus stand, Omkara Vedike, Bunts Hostel, Nehru Maidan as well as  several other places.
