Premakanthi Trust Founder Prof. Premalatha Shetty passes away

Mangaluru, July 22, 2022: Prof. Premalatha Shetty, Founder of Premakanthi Education Charitable Trust passed away at a private hospital in Mangaluru following  a brief illness. She was 91 years of age.

Premalatha Shetty had served for nearly four decades as Principal of Government College. She Founded the Premakanthi Trust after her retirement. She had also served as Senate Member of Mangalore University and  as the District President of Bharath Scouts and Guides.


She was the recipient of numerous accolades including ‘Mahila Jyothi Award’ in recognition of her contribution in the field of education, ‘Bharath Vikas Award’, ‘Bharath Gourav Award’, ‘Gem of Millennium Award-2000’, ‘National Subhash Chandra Bose Award’, ‘Mother Theresa Excellence Award’ and ‘Rajiv Gandhi Award’ for Human Excellence.

She is the mother of Guru Kiran, the reputed Filmfare award winning music director and playback singer is his eldest son. Her third son Dr Shivasharan Shetty is the founder director of Namma TV and he is also a member of the Dental Council of India. Her other two sons Devicharan Shetty and Harikishan Shetty are both entrepreneurs.
