Prathibha Patel to confer World Konkani Cultural Convention Awards on 25 Konkani associations

Mangalore, November 17: Mandd Sobhann has announced that its first World Konkani Cultural Convention Awards will be conferred on 25 Konkani associations from different parts of the world. Mandd Sobhann Gurkar Eric Ozario informed reporters at a press conference held at Hotel Deepa Comforts that these awards, which are being conferred in recognition of the associations’ efforts to preserve and develop Konkani in their respective regions, will be given away by President Smt. Prathibha Patel on the occasion of the Vishwa Konkani Ekta Divas at Nehru Maidan at 11:00 a.m.
Roy Castelino, the pirjenth of Mandd Sobhann, also released the invitation of the first World Konkani Cultural Convention and announced the names of the 25 award-winning association.
The World Konkani Cultural Convention Awards will be conferred on the following associations:

9. Konkani Kutam, Bahrain
10. Mangalore Konkani Center of the Parish (MCCP) Oman

In his address, Erik Ozerio said that the 25-day-long cultural extravaganza will showcase Konkani art, culture, and literature while bringing together Konkani-speaking people of all regions, castes, dialects, and creeds under one umbrella.
The traditional panpod udaak (betel leaf and water) was handed over by Louis Pinto to Anand Shetty, who in turn offered it to the gathering. In his address, he said that Mandd Sobhann is the only organization that works for the preservation of Konkani language and culture by organizing a number of events regularly.
Erik, Joyce, and their troupe also presented a musical nite on the occasion. Mandd Sobhann President Louis J. Pinto, PRO Arun Raj Rodrigues, and Stany Alvares were also present.
