Power tariff hiked at average of 13p per unit

Bangalore, April 30, 2012: The Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) ordered today that electricity tariffs will be revised for all electricity supply companies (Escoms) in Karnataka for 2012 – 13. Accordingly, the electricity tariff will be raised at an average of 13p per unit.

Power TariffThe hike, however, varies as per consumer category and will be brought into effect for power consumed from today.

A KERC release states that the average power tariff hike of 13p per unit is against the 73p hike suggested by the Escoms for all consumer categories except IP set users and beneficiaries of Kuteer Jyothi and Bhagya Jyothi schemes.

The lowest power tariff hike of 10p per unit has been approved for domestic users, who comprise 141.52 lakh of the total 195 lakh consumers in Karnataka. These include users of IP sets over 10HP and domestic users in rural and urban areas.

A hike of 20p per unit has been approved for 24 lakh consumers, including commercial complexes and industries.

Further, the KERC has reduced tariff by 50p per unit for installations of LT water supplies in rural as well as urban areas. It has also not raised tariff for installations of HT water supplies.
