Mangaluru, Feb 12, 2026: The Mangaluru City Traffic Police have announced a month-long closure of a stretch of the Mangaluru–Solapur National Highway 169 between Ganjimutt and Yedapadavu to facilitate repair works by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
The closure, effective from February 10, has been imposed to restore the carriageway damaged during the widening of the Bikarnakatte–Sanur stretch into four lanes. City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy, who is also the Additional District Magistrate, said vehicles travelling between Mangaluru and Moodbidri or Karkala will have to use diverted routes during this period.
The affected stretch lies between Muchhur Cross from the Ganjimutt side and Daddi Cross from the Yedapadavu side. The road had developed cracks and was on the verge of collapse while the NHAI was straightening the highway by cutting the Yedapadavu hill.
Route buses and local vehicles plying between Mangaluru and Moodbidri are permitted to use the diversion via Daddi Cross, Pumar Padavu Cross, Manjanakatte Cross, Arjuna Kodi, Eshwara Katte Cross and Muchhur Cross. Trucks and other heavy goods vehicles must take the Vidyagiri Cross–Mulki Junction–Surathkal route in both directions.
Light motor vehicles may use the Vidyagiri Cross–Moorkaveri–Kateel–Bajpe or Pakshikere Cross–Haleyangadi–Surathkal route. All trucks travelling between Mangaluru and Karkala have been directed to operate via Padubidri.
Meanwhile, the NHAI said it aims to complete the four-laning work at the affected location during the one-month diversion period. While restoration of the existing carriageway could be completed within a fortnight, additional time has been sought to finish other pending works at the site, an official said.
