Addressing street vendors, Shetty said that the Civic Tiger is an enemy of modern, civilized society since the civilized society is supposed to work for the overall development of society and not just the rich.

He also flayed the MCC for giving permission to the district-in-charge minister to construct more flats, but evicting street vendors and preventing them from earning their livelihood.

The protestors yelled slogans and said that street vending will not be eliminated at any cost.

Accusing the Sangh Parivar of hatching plots to evacuate vendors belonging to minority communities, Hegde said that the city used to oppose malls, but now the BJP is protecting malls and complexes and neglecting poor street vendors.

The protest continued for over an hour, but the Civic Tiger did not appear. A number of policemen were deployed to maintain law and order during the protest.
