Political parties condemn ministers who watched porn in assembly

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Feb 8, 2012: Mangalore witnessed a number of protests against the three ministers, who were captured on camera viewing sex clips on a mobile phone, on Feb 8 Wednesday.

On Feb 7 Tuesday, Laxman Savadi and C. C. Patil were caught on media cameras viewing sex clips on a mobile phone, which belongs to Krishna J. Palemar. The news immediately spread like wildfire, making headlines all over the country. Although the three have resigned as ministers, they still remain members of the Legislative Assembly.

Today, the district unit of the Congress, the CPI (M), and the CITU organized protests that the three must be suspended from the BJP and that stern action must be taken against them.

The district unit of the Congress used a car to create a model of the Vidhana Soudha, hung a banner across it, and poured water on it in order to “purify it.” The protestors also burned effigies of Patil, Savadi, and Palemar.

Declaring that the three had insulted the assembly and wrecked the reputation of the state, KPCC Secretary Ivan D’Souza demanded their immediate resignation as MLAs, adding that Palemar should not be allowed to contest the elections again.

The BJP, which portrays itself as a staunch advocate of Indian culture, is now conducting rave parties in the guise of art and music festivals and its members are watching sex clips in assembly, while the CM is defending them, said Mr. D’Souza. He further said that the BJP talks of development, but its only “achievements” are illegal mining, nepotism, and ministers who watch porn in assembly. He demanded that all the three must be suspended from the party.

Congress leaders Ashraf, Vijay Kumar Shetty, Shashidhar Hegde, Mohiuddin Bava, T. K. Sudhir, Suresh Ballal, P. V. Mohan, Pravinchandra Alva, Mithun Rai, and Lancelot Pinto were also present.

The CPI (M) organized a separate protest meeting, demanding immediate resignation of the three as MLAs. They also shouted slogans against the BJP-led state government. The protestors also made a list of the scams the BJP-led state government was involved in during its three years in power, especially emphasizing the attacks on young women in a Mangalore pub and various rape cases.

Speaking on the occasion, CPI (M) District Secretary B. Madhava said that the incident is “regrettable,” adding that the Vidhana Soudha has been polluted. Stating that the BJP is morally unfit to continue in power, he said that the government must be dissolved. He also urged the public to elect their representatives carefully.

The CPI (M) protestors also criticized the CM for permitting rave parties in the guise of music and art festivals at St. Mary’s Island.

CPI (M) leaders Vasanth Kumar and Sunil Kumar Bajal were also present on this occasion.

Similar protests were held in different parts of Mangalore by SDPI and All India Youth Federation (AIYF).
