Policeman injured in firing between ANF and suspected Naxals

ANF12mar11 disBelthangady, Mar 11, 2012: The state Anti Naxal Force (ANF) exchanged fire with a group of four people suspected to be Naxals on March 10 Saturday at Bangadikolli, in which Sadashiva Chaudhary, a policeman, sustained injuries. 


The suspects opened fire on the ANF, who was searching the area for Naxal activity, following a tip, and the ANF fired back. Over 100 ANF personnel formed part of this operation.


The ANF commenced their combing operation on the morning of Saturday and fire was exchanged between the two groups at 2:30 p.m. The two parties kept exchanging fire till 4:30 p.m. 


The information obtained regarding the Naxal group is contradictory in nature. Some sources say that there were just 3 Naxals and others say that there were at least 25 Naxals in the group. The ANF has also seized laptops, utensils, rice, and other items. 


Prathap Reddy, the IGP (western range); Abhishek Goyal, the superintendent of police; and ASP Anucheta visited the place.
