Police to deploy tight security in city for Independence Day

Mangaluru, Aug 12, 2016:The Dakshina Kannada district police have made elaborate arrangements for the smooth celebration of the Independence Day in view of perceived threat by anti-social elements to disturb peace during the celebrations.

A release from the district police here said the recent blast at Mysuru court complex adds to the suspicion of perceived threat.  While additional personnel would be deployed for patrolling at various places in the district, bomb disposal and dog squads would conduct regular inspections at important installations, including government offices.

Meanwhile, Additional Superintendent of Police Vedamurthy conducted a meeting of police officers of Bantwal Police Circle in the run up to the celebrations.   Dog and bomb disposal squads conducted inspections at the Bantwal court complex, Sulabh toilet complex and other areas in the town.

The release urged all those hoisting the tricolour to strictly follow the flag code and shun using plastic flags.

It urged general public to immediately inform the police about unknown persons found behaving suspiciously. Details of those providing the information would be kept secret.  Information may be provided to control room on 0824 2220500, 2440284 or 9480805300, the release added.

The Mangaluru City Police have imposed traffic restrictions around Nehru Maidan in the city on August 15 in view of the celebrations between 6.30 a.m. till the end of the programme.

Movement and parking of all kinds of vehicles is banned between A.B. Shetty Circle and Hamilton Circle (District Office).   Parking of vehicles is banned between A.B. Shetty Circle and Football Ground along Nehru Maidan on U.P. Mallya Road while general public attending the programme may park the vehicles on the left side of the Gateway Hotel Road.

Vehicles bringing schoolchildren for the programme have to be parked on the left side of Rozario Road, stated an official release.  The restrictions would not apply to vehicles ferrying VIPs, police and emergency service vehicles.
