Police seize 30 barrels of illegal kerosene

Mangalore, June 6, 2012: The Pandeshwar police on June 6, Wednesday raided a shed in Hoige Bazaar and seized 30 barrels of unauthorized blue kerosene meant for distribution among financially backward families. 

The police also interrogated Damodar Karkera, the owner of the shed.

Reportedly, kerosene is illegally stored during the monsoons and sold to boat owners. But the accused said that he got the stock from the Mangalore Trawl Boat Fishermen Primary Cooperative Society and that it belongs to Gillnet Boats. Mr. Karkera said that the shed belongs to him and that Gillnet Boats gives him Rs. 100 as rent for every barrel of kerosene stocked. 

Although the Pandeshwar police have registered a case, they haven’t made any arrests.
