Police crackdown on drugs menace continues in city

Mangaluru, Aug 25, 2023: City police who are on a drive to make the city drugs-free in accordance to the special instructions from Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Home Minister Parameshwar and DK District in-charge Minister Gundurao have since June this year arrested 61 drug peddlers and have seized drugs worth over Rs 50 lakhs. The seized drugs include MDMA, ganja and charas.

 

Two cases of selling drugs laced chocolates have also been detected and 108 kg of such chocolates have been seized, informed City Police Commissioner Kuldeep Kumar Jain.

He said awareness drive is being conducted in educational institutions. Police have screened as many as 800 people on suspicion of drugs consumption and 211 have tested positive for the same.

Information provided by CCB reveals that this year so far police have seized 1184.5 grams MDMA and 52.290 kg ganja. Since June 24 the special drive has been launched. Of the total drugs seized 1022.5 grams MDMA, 2 kg ganja were seized after June 24.

A total of 13 cases of gambling, 46 cases of Matka were filed and as many as 148 people detained.
