Police bust inter-state vehicle racket, arrest 4 men

Mangalore, Nov 7, 2012: The police have busted an inter-state vehicle racket and arrested four men in connection with the case.

The arrested are Abdul Basheer (21) of Padnoor, Mohammed Haaris (19) of Madnooru, Kamalaksha (29) of Bantwal, and Mohammed Faisal (21) of Savnoor.  

SP Abhishek Goyal told reporters that police stations in Puttur, Uppinangady, Sullia, Ullal, Kadaba, and Manjeshwar had registered a number of cases of stolen gas cylinders and vehicles. The police suspected the arrested and a DCIB team caught them in Mani. The four were riding bikes at the time and couldn’t produce their documents. They admitted that they were involved in the thefts upon interrogation. The Puttur rural circle inspector is now handling this case.

The police have also seized 7 Pulsar bikes, 2 Honda Activa scooters, 7 gas cylinders, and 1 Yamaha bike from the accused. They have solved as many as 15 theft cases with these arrests and have retrieved around Rs. 4,50,000 from the accused.

The accused would steal gas cylinders and vehicles and sell them to other people, said that SP.

When a reporter wanted to know about the Sowjanya murder case, Mr. Goyal said that the police are willing to share the investigation file with the victim’s family members. Expressing willingness to hand over the case to the CBI, he said that the victim’s family has so far not appealed to him in writing.
