Police apathy responsible for attacks on minority institutions – Maben

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Jan 8, 2012: According to Walter Maben, the president of the Karnataka Missions Network (KMN), the reason for the continuous attacks on Christian institutions and places of worship for the past four years is police inefficiency. He was speaking at a meeting called by Anwar Manippady, the president of the Karnataka State Minority Commission (KSMC) in the DC’s office.

Mr. Maben further complained that, when the vandals reach the crime scene first followed closely by media persons, the police are always the last to arrive. Stating that there is a conspiracy against minority institutions and places of worship, he said that the miscreants were goons hired to carry out systematic attacks. He said that this makes the minorities feel as if they are second-class citizens.

Speaking on the occasion, Fr. John, a priest of the Pentecostal Assembly, said that nearly 200 attacks have been made on Christian institutions in DK from 2008. Suresh, the pastor of Pentecostal Assembly, said that these attacks follow allegations of forced conversions.

Stating that the government’s stand on providing security to the minorities will not change, Mr. Manippady said that attacks on religious places will be prevented and that police protection will also be provided to place of worship at prayers.
