Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, May 4, 2025: The murder of Bajrang Dal member Suhas Shetty has left Mangaluru shaken, with the gruesome daylight attack raising questions about the involvement of two burqa-clad women seen aiding the attackers. After days of intense speculation, the Mangaluru police have identified the women, putting an end to the rumors surrounding their role.

In a press briefing, Police Commissioner Anupam Agarwal confirmed that the women are relatives of Niaz, one of the accused. “The women seen in the video are connected to one of the attackers and were in the area on personal errands,” he clarified, addressing the public’s curiosity about their presence in the viral surveillance footage.

The chilling video shows Suhas being brutally attacked with a talwar—a large sword-like weapon—in broad daylight. It also captures the two women assisting the attackers into a vehicle, enabling their swift escape. This particular detail sparked widespread attention and demands for an explanation.

According to the police investigation, the murder was an act of revenge linked to a series of communal killings in the region. Suhas had been named as the prime accused in the 2022 murder of Mohammed Fazil, a young Muslim man in Suratkal, allegedly killed in retaliation for the murder of BJP youth leader Praveen Nettaru.

The police have identified Abdul Safwan, an associate of Fazil, as the mastermind behind the attack on Suhas. Safwan, who narrowly escaped an attack in 2023, reportedly feared for his safety and sought revenge. He is accused of assembling a team, including Adil—who had prior involvement in Fazil’s murder plot—and arranging a ₹5 lakh payment, of which ₹3 lakh was provided as an advance.

So far, eight individuals have been arrested in connection with the case. The accused include Safwan, a driver from Shantigudde; Mohammed Muzammil, a Saudi-based salesman; Mohammed Rizwan from Jokatte; and Kalandar Shafi from Kulshekar. Also implicated are Ranjit Nagaraj and Adil Mahroof, Fazil’s brother.

Police Commissioner Agarwal emphasized that the crime was a meticulously planned act of retaliation rather than a spontaneous incident. He also urged the public to avoid communalizing the case and maintain peace as the investigation continues.

As authorities push forward to ensure justice, the incident has left the city of Mangaluru deeply unsettled, highlighting the dangerous cycle of retribution and violence in the region.
