Peepal tree in front of Venkataramana Temple, Car Street falls; 3 vehicles damaged

Mangaluru, Jan 24, 2021: A huge peepal tree in front of famous Sri Venkataramana Temple at Car Street came crashing down on Sunday morning.

The incident took place at around 8.10 am and fortunately no injuries or casualties were reported as many people were there during the time. Three vehicles parked near the temple damaged in the incident.

Another Peepal tree was planted adjacent to the old tree on 16-04-1963 by Late Sri. Ullal Srinivas Mallya (U.S. Mallya) the first MP of Udupi Lok Sabha Constituency.

The fallen Peepal tree said to have been planted hundreds of years back. Ten years back it was decided to discard as it was aging and dying. However a group of Poojarys decided to retain it and built a new platform around the tree.
