Paurakarmikas to demand service regularization on Feb 26

Mangalore, February 23: The Mangalore City Corporation’s (MCC) daily wage earners (paurakarmikas) will stage a protest under the leadership of the Dakshina Kannada District Paurakarmikas and Fourth Grade Employees’ Association in front of the MCC building on Feb 26, Saturday.

Speaking at a press meet on Wednesday, President Gangadhar said that the protestors will demand regularization of their services since they have been waiting for the same for nearly 20 years and since the authorities concerned are least bothered about their plight. He said that no government has succeeded in solving the problems of these daily wage workers who cannot even enjoy their basic rights.


Revealing that MCC has 225 regularized workers and that the regularization proposals of 64 of these workers have not yet received the state government’s approval, he said that 15 of these workers have died while still in service.
