Parents donate dead daughter’s vital organs

Mangalore, December 27, 2011 : Swarna J., a student of Vogue Institute of Fashion Technology in Bangalore, who had fallen from the second floor of her college and sustained serious head injuries, died in hospital. Her final rites were performed at Nandigudda in Mangalore, according to reliable sources.

When the doctors had declared Swarna as brain death, her parents decided to donate her vital organs such as kidneys, liver, heart, and eyes.

Swarna, who hails from Mangalore, died in the ICU of Columbia Asia Hospital in Bangalore, shortly after the doctors removed the ventilator. She had been declared brain dead since Dec 14, the day of which she had a fall from the second floor of her college. 
 
Speaking about the family’s decision to donate Swarna’s vital organs, her mother Hemalatha said that this was the only way she could see her daughter alive. Fighting back her tears, Hemalatha said that it is very difficult for her to believe that her daughter, who grew up before her eyes, is no more and that the family decided to donate her vital organs when the doctors declared her brain dead.

Swarna’s father Jaswanth is a dealer in automobile spare parts in Mangalore. Hemalatha used to visit her daughter once a fortnight and had decided to rent a house in Yelahanka in November so that she could stay with her daughter.
