
Mangalore, May 7: Pandit Lakshminarayana Bhat, the chief priest of Lakshminarayana Temple near PVS Circle, was felicitated on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Shankar Narayan Samaga and Malpe Ramadas Samaga, popular known as Samaga brothers, at a special function organized by the Kalkura Prathishtan on May 7, Saturday.
Yakshangana Academy President Kumble Sundar Rao inaugurated the event and spoke about his relationship with the Samaga brothers. Laksminarayana Bhat was honored with a garland, a shawl, a memento, and a bowl of fruits. Sudhakar Rao Pejawar read the citation.
Speaking on the occasion, Vasudev Samaga said that he learned the art of harikatha from his father and his father’s brother at a very tender age. Recalling the past, he said that every house had tablas and harmoniums, which were used while singing bhajans. Today, none of the houses have these instruments, he noted.
Kalkura Prathishtan President Pradeep Kumar Kalkura and Harikrishna Punaroor, the former president of the Kannada Sahitya Parishad were also present.
