Pandeshwar police arrest man for breaking engagement

Mangalore,june24,2012:The Pandeshwar police have arrested a man who rejected his financee on grounds that she gets phone calls from another man.

The arrested is Deepak, a software engineer of Kinnigoli, who got engaged to a girl from Bappal, who is a lecturer at a college in Mangalore, two months back. Deepak’s family approached the girl’s family and the engagement was fixed. The couple even went on a tour to Mangalore and Bangalore, and Deepak became a regular visitor to her house. She gave him her email and FB details. 

Megharaj, a developer of Bappal, had approached the girl’s family to request her hand in marriage three months back. However, the girl’s family refused him owing to certain differences in their communities. The girl had told Deepak about this, but he said that it was not a big issue.

 

 

The girl and her family were, therefore, shocked when Deepak announced that he would not marry her because she was receiving phone calls from other men. The girl’s family was furious because they had already distributed invitations for the wedding and there were just a few hours left for the marriage. They lodged a complaint at the local police station. 

When interrogated by the police, Deepak said that he does not want to marry her because she is getting phone calls from other men and said that he will commit suicide if he is forced to marry her. Megharaj said that he had made one phone call to the girl, proposing marriage to her once again, but had not bothered her again when she said no.
