Mangalore, Oct 29, 2012 : A Dalit representative has accused assistant sub inspectors in Pandeshwar Women’s Police Station of behaving rudely against complainants and torturing them.

Speaking at the monthly SC/ST grievance meet held in the Mangalore Police Commissionerate, S. P. Anand said that such ASIs must be transferred. Mangalore Police Commissioner Manish Kharbikar, who chaired the meeting, heard the Dalit representatives’ grievances.
In response, the commissioner asked Anand to provide details and assured him that action will definitely be taken against the ASIs if they are proved to be guilty.
Bringing up the case of a patient who died mysteriously at AJ Hospital early this month, Anand said that the death of Basavaraj, who was employed at Guardian Constructions, must be thoroughly investigated. Basavaraj, who was admitted to the hospital because of fever, did not respond to treatment and died. However, Vasanth, work supervisor at Guardian Constructions, filed an unnatural death report at Mangalore East Police Station, stating that Basavaraj jumped off the fourth floor.
Revealing details about this case, Anand pointed out that there were no marks of injury on Basavaraj’s body. Moreover, he had been brought all the way to Mangalore from Kinnigoli instead of being admitted to a local hospital. In response to this complaint, the Kadri police said that they have filed an unnatural death case and are investigating it.
