Moodbidri, Dec 5, 2011 : :Since St. Ignatius Loyola Church of Paladka will celebrate its 100th anniversary in Nov 2013, the members of the parish, under the leadership of Fr. Gilbert D’Souza, the parish priest, participated in the preparatory celebrations held on the church grounds on Dec 4, Sunday in the presence of Andrew D’Souza, the vice president of the parish pastoral parishad, Secretary Victor A. D’Souza, and five guest priests.
Mr. D’Souza delivered the welcome address and Fr. Gilbert D’Souza honored the five guest priests with bouquets.
Peter Cardoza and his wife, the most senior couple in the parish, a male child, a female child, a few youth representing the church’s ICYM and YCS units, the 10 gurkars of the parish’s 10 wards, office bearers of various church organizations such as Catholic Sabha, Shtree Sangatan, Christopher Association, Vishenth Paul Sabha, Legion of Mary, Franciscan III Order, Altar Boys, and others lit a lamp with 10 wicks, each wick representing the 10 wards and the 10 projects undertaken by the parish.
The parish priest and the vice president and secretary of the parish pastoral parishad unveiled the centenary logo, bearing the slogan “fullness of life for all” and depicting the 10 projects.
The church has undertaken 10 projects related to building a community of faith, good health for everybody, creating a cleaner and greener Paladka, encouraging talents in children, unity, creating political awareness, financial stability, prayerful atmosphere, women’s empowerment, and loving relationships within the parish.
A hundred balloons were blown and released into the air representatives of each ward, symbolizing 100 activities under each of the 10 projects.
Fr. Francis Rodrigues, the editor of Rakknno Weekly, celebrated the Holy Mass with Fr. Oswald Monteiro, the director of RUSEMP; Fr. Andrew Leo D’Souza, the parish priest of Pakshikere; Fr. Vijay Machado, the assistant director of the pastoral institute; Fr. Henry Fernandes of Alangar; and Fr. Gilbert D’Souza concelebrating.
