Mangaluru, May 12, 2026: Dakshina Kannada District Congress president Harish Kumar has criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent appeal urging people not to buy gold for a year and to use vehicles sparingly, calling the statement “shameful” and “childish.”
In a press release, Harish Kumar said that such remarks from the Prime Minister reflected an inability to govern effectively. “It is like a person who cannot dance blaming the stage,” he remarked sarcastically.
He pointed out that commercial LPG cylinder prices have been increased by Rs 993 across the country and that the prices of essential commodities have already skyrocketed.
“On one hand, the Prime Minister speaks about Atmanirbhar Bharat and encourages the automobile and industrial sectors. On the other hand, he advises people to limit the use of vehicles. By asking people not to buy gold, he is dealing a severe blow to the gold industry. Who will be responsible for the losses caused to these sectors?” he questioned.
Harish Kumar further stated that such comments do not suit the office of the Prime Minister and accused the Centre of pushing the country into a debt trap while now attempting to burden industries further with losses.
