Mangaluru, Jun 7, 2025: In a dramatic twist in the Deralakatte hospital bomb threat case, Ullal police have arrested a postgraduate (PG) medical student for allegedly making a hoax call to avoid presenting a seminar.

On the morning of June 4, around 8:45 am, the hospital received five bomb threat calls from an unidentified individual, claiming that explosives had been planted on the premises. The calls, made via a mobile phone, triggered panic among doctors, staff, and patients.

In response, authorities launched an extensive search operation involving 25–30 police personnel, the bomb disposal squad, and a dog squad. The hospital building, parking area, and surroundings were combed for nearly 10 hours. No explosives or suspicious items were found.

Interestingly, the initial police complaint was filed by PG student Dr Chalasani Monika Chowdhary at the Ullal police station. A case was registered under Sections 352(2) and 352(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023.

However, during a technical investigation, police traced the calls back to Dr Monika herself. It is suspected that she made the threats to avoid delivering a scheduled seminar.

She was arrested on June 7, and the mobile phone used in the incident has been seized. Ullal police stated that further investigation is ongoing.
