Over 1000 volunteers take part in Save Beach Campaign

Mangalore, Sep 2, 2013 : A massive beach cleanliness drive ‘ Save Beach  Campaign’ was held in various beaches  in Mangalore and vicinity on September 1, Sunday under the aegis of Matha Amritanandamayi Mutt and other organizations. Nearly 1200 students, NSS volunteers and citizens participated in the drive held at Panambur, Someshwara, Tannirbavi, Bengre, Chitrapura, Suratkal, Hosabettu and Mukka Beaches.

The garbage that was cleared was taken away in MCC trucks.The drive began  after a Yoga and breathing exercise session for the participants.


Though the cleanliness drive in almost all beaches were completed in a few hours, the same was not the case in Tannirbavi beach where nearly 400 volunteers had to virtually struggle considering the massive garbage in the beach.  The volunteers could clear nearly half of the garbage. Many even suffered cuts while cleaning up due to the presence of large quantities of bottles.

Panambur Beach Tourism Development Project Chief Executive Officer Yatish Baikampady  opined that holding of such campaigns every month  would be beneficial.
