Oscar visits Jacintha Saldanha’s residence in Shirva, consoles grieving family

Udupi, Dec 13, 2012:  Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha Member Oscar Fernandes visited the Shirva residence of Jacintha Saldanha, the UK based nurse hailing from the district, who fell victim to a prank call in London, on December 12, Wednesday and offered his deep condolences to the bereaved family.

Oscar who spoke to media men on the occasion, said the mortal remains of Jacintha are expected to be brought to India in the next three to four days. He said Jacintha’s family has been allowed to see her body now that the post-mortem has been done and added as per the British law, the family can see the body only after post-mortem.


Oscar was accompanied by Vasanth Salian, former minister and several Congress leaders including MA Gafur, Sarasu Bangera, Prakash Shetty, Veronica Carnelio, Harish Kini, Conrad Castelino and Ignatius D’Souza.


Naveen Saldanha, brother of Jacintha, said the family is waiting for the body  and added the last rites will be held at Shirva.
