Ornaments worth Rs. 15 lakh stolen from house in city

Mangalore, Nov 26, 2012: Gold ornaments worth Rs. 15 lakh were stolen from a house in Upper Bendur between SCS Hospital and Collectors’ Gate.

The house, which is situated behind Violet Complex opposite the Maruthi pre-owned car yard, belongs to Althaf and Rashida Suleiman. The family had locked the house and gone to visit relatives on Saturday, and the house is believed to have been broken into that night.

 

 

 

The thieves had used professional equipment to break open the front lock. A neighbor said that he had heard sounds during the night, but thought that construction work was going on nearby. He said that heavy vehicles are often parked near the filling station and wheels are changed late at night, adding that he thought such work was going on nearby.

The family has urged the media to exert pressure on the police department to beef up security in the area and prevent burglaries.
