One more tests positive for coronavirus in Dakshina Kannada district

coronavirusBengaluru, March 31, 2020: A 34-year-old man from Sullia Taluk has been tested positive for coronavirus on Tuesday, March 31. He had arrived from Dubai on March 18 and was under home quarantine. With this, the number of infected in district rose to eight.

In Karnataka ten more people were tested positive for coronavirus infection on Tuesday, taking state’s tally to 98. 26-year-old man from Bhatkal in Uttara Kannada, who returned to his home town from Dubai on March 20 is also among the 10 fresh cases.

Only three of the 10 have travelled abroad. Three of the other seven are primary contacts of positive cases. The three Hospet patients have neither any travel history abroad nor are contacts of known positive patients.

Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Tuesday said that 45 people from Karnataka had attended the congregation in New Delhi’s Hazrat Nizmuddin dargah and of them one person from Bidar was tested positive. At least 10 coronavirus-related deaths and 300 hospitalisations are linked to this seminary.

The Karnataka government is trying to trace 32 out of around 45 persons from the state, who had taken part in the religious congregation of Tablighi Jamaat held in Nizamuddin West, Delhi earlier this month.

"Around 45 persons from the state had attended the Nizamuddin Jamaat mosque held on March 10. The man from Sira who died of coronavirus infection (March 27) is one of them. We have traced only 13 persons and they have been isolated.  However, we hope to trace out the others through the phone call records at the earliest," said state health minister B. Sriramulu.
