One Dead, Four Injured as Wall Collapses at Mangaluru Convention Hall

Mangaluru, Sep 27, 2026: A 16-year-old student was killed and four others injured after a wall collapsed during a gathering at the Rama Laxminarayan Convention Hall here on Saturday, police said.

The deceased was identified as Mohammed Shamaj. The injured are Mohammed Shanan Ahmed, 18, Haneef, 23, Dawood Farsin Ahmed, 18, and Mohammed Shakeel Hussain, 18. They were shifted to Highland Hospital for treatment.

According to police, a large number of students had gathered at the venue for a programme related to the college student union office-bearers’ ceremony. As the venue was overcrowded, some students were standing in a corridor and reportedly leaning against a weak wall, which collapsed, causing them to fall.

Mangaluru City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy said overcrowding and the weakened supporting wall led to the incident. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collapse.

A student who witnessed the incident alleged that poor maintenance of the old building may have contributed to the accident and also claimed there was a delay in providing medical attention to some of the injured at the hospital.
