Mangalore, August 25: IGP Gopal Hosur (western range) expressed his appreciation of Mangalore’s print and electronic media and remarked that the media in Mangalore is very vibrant. He was addressing media representatives during a tea party hosted at the auditorium of the Karnataka Bank at Kodiabail on Aug 25, Wednesday in honor of his appointment as the new additional commissioner of police (law and order) in Bangalore.

Mr. Hosur also said that the press and the media are collaborating with each other in an ideal manner and added that journalists and members of the public are true to the culture of Mangalore and have a positive way of looking at things. Pointing out the fact that Mangalore is a very important place in the state and well as in the nation, he said that media can be the strength of any administration. Lauding SP Dr. A. S. Subrahmanyeshwar Rao, he said that he is an excellent officer and urged the media to cooperate with all the police officers. He also said that the police should efficiently serve the public and launch peace-keeping projects.


Speaking on how effectively the district police have tackled various problems, he said that the naxal problem is now under control. He also urged the department to analyze the cases of the past in order to avoid mistakes in future.


Saying that he is sorry to leave Mangalore while 3 – 4 cases are still pending, he said that he wanted to give justice to Meera Balakrishna and Thimmappa Naik, but has to leave Mangalore before he could do so.
