Mangalore, Oct 22, 2013: An Old Mangalore Port Users’ Association members staged a protest in front of the Bunder office in Old Port on October 22, Tuesday demanding to appoint a permanent surveryor of vessel.
The protestors said that vessel owners are facing a lot of problem due to the appointment of surveyors on temporary basis, hence they urged for a permanent solution.
MLA J R Lobo arrived at the protest venue and accepted a memorandum from the protestors. Later he held a meeting with the officials and directed them to solve the problem as soon as possible.
In between the discussion, a few protestors tried to stop the Lakshadweep vessel from moving out of the harbour forcibly, since they had not supported the protest while all other boats and vessels supported, but when other group interfered, the clash erupted in the area.
When the situation went out of control, police had to intervene to disperse the groups.
Mohammed Sharif, Rafique, Abdul Latif, Sharan, Harish, Jeevan, Harish Kava, Suresh Nayak and many others were present.
