Mangalore, June 16: P. S. Raju, the state jail deputy inspector, inspected the Mangalore Sub Jail today in response to the statement given by Rasheed Malabari to media persons after his hearing at the Mangalore District Court.
He interacted with media persons after investigating the jail and said that Rasheed’s statement is false and that there are no weapons in the jail. He said that police teams have thoroughly searched the jail for ganja and have found drugs inside the jail, but no dangerous weapons.
Stating that the jail is short-staffed, he said that recruitments will soon be made, adding that drugs are getting into the jail premises owing to lack of staff. He also said that the condition of the jail will improve once it is shifted to its new building.
It may be recalled that Rashid Malbari, a killer in Chhota Shakeel’s gang had claimed that Sharan, who is in jail because of his involvement in the murder of Prof. A. S. Ramakrishna, the administrator of KVG Medical College, had attacked him with weapons in the jail premises.
The DIG was accompanied by a number of police officials.
