Mangaluru, July 4, 2025: The Nitte Centre for Digestive Disorders, under the Justice K S Hegde Charitable Hospital, successfully concluded a two-day Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme on June 14 and 15, 2025, drawing medical professionals from across Karnataka and neighbouring states.
Focusing on advanced diagnostic and therapeutic approaches in Intestinal Ultrasound (IUS), Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), and Nutrition in GI Disorders, the event reinforced Nitte’s reputation as an emerging regional centre of excellence in gastroenterological education.
Hands-On Training Marks Day One
The first day of the CME was held at the state-of-the-art Nitte Centre for Digestive Disorders and was dedicated to an in-depth, hands-on Intestinal Ultrasound Workshop. Led by experts Dr Kayal Vizhi and Dr Partha Pal, the workshop covered ultrasound machine setup, diagnostic imaging protocols, and pathological interpretation related to Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s Disease.
Participants appreciated the interactive structure of the training, which included live demonstrations and close mentorship. The session offered a rare opportunity for clinicians to gain practical skills in a specialised and emerging area of gastrointestinal diagnostics.
Focus on IBD and GI Nutrition on Day Two
The second day of the CME took place at Taj Vivanta, Mangaluru, and featured two parallel sessions—“Inflammatory Bowel Disease: What’s New & What’s Next” at Senate Hall I, and “Nutrition in GI Disorders” at the Cabinet Hall.
The event was inaugurated by Prof (Dr) M Shantharam Shetty, Pro-Chancellor of Nitte (Deemed to be University), who stressed the importance of continued medical dialogue and interdisciplinary collaboration in improving outcomes in chronic GI conditions such as IBD.
The sessions explored cutting-edge developments in IBD management, including new biologic therapies, vaccination protocols, and the growing role of nutrition in patient care. Distinguished speakers included Dr Kayal Vizhi, Dr Partha Pal, Dr Vineeth V K, and Mrs Ritu Sudhakar. A lively panel discussion featuring physicians, nutritionists, and faculty members added valuable perspectives to the academic sessions.
A Postgraduate Quiz added a competitive and engaging element to the programme, helping reinforce key takeaways for younger participants.
Well-Received by Diverse Delegates
The CME witnessed active participation from consultants, postgraduates, dietitians, paediatricians, and other healthcare professionals, who praised the event’s academic depth, high-quality presentations, and seamless organisation. Many attendees described the two-day event as a unique blend of theoretical insight, clinical relevance, and practical training.
Organising Team Commended
The success of the CME was attributed to the efforts of the organising team led by Dr Chandrashekar Sorake (Organising Chairperson), Dr Seema Pavaman (Secretary), and Dr Prerana Hegde (Co-Secretary). The event was supported by the departments of Gastroenterology, Paediatrics, Nutrition, and General Medicine.
With this initiative, the Nitte Centre for Digestive Disorders continues to strengthen its mission of advancing gastroenterological practice through research, education, and interdisciplinary collaboration, contributing to improved care for both patients and the medical community.
